Both Katendrecht and De Rotterdam have a rich history that is well-known in Rotterdam and far beyond. De Rotterdam is one of the elements that makes the neighbourhood exciting again. Plenty to explore both on board and at “De Kaap”.

The physical restructuring of the Katendrecht neighbourhood gathered momentum right from the very moment when the ship was purchased. Property developers grew confident and built housing in the neighbourhood that sold well. The art and culture sector is also becoming increasingly active in the area.

Because the arrival of the ship has such a big impact on the neighbourhood (extra traffic, large numbers of visitors, pressure on parking facilities, new employment opportunities), all the parties at Katendrecht are working in close collaboration. De Rotterdam BV sponsors small-scale social and cultural activities within the area. In contrast to a few years ago, the residents have become proud of the Katendrecht neighbourhood and De Rotterdam contributes to this.
